The remains of missing nursing student Holly Bobo, who was last seen in April 2011, have been found in Decatur County, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) said late Monday.
Investigators confirmed a human skull found near a rural road Sunday belonged to Bobo, TBI Director Mark Gwyn said at a news conference late Monday.
“It was my prayer, as well as the prayers of many others, that Holly Bobo would be found,” Gwyn said. “And I assure you, this is not over by any means. The investigation is still ongoing to get to the truth.”
A pair of men found a skull Sunday in Decatur County near property owned by the family of Zachary Rye Adams, who has been charged with Bobo's kidnapping and murder. He has pleaded not guilty. A second man charged, Jason Autry, has also pleaded not guilty. Gwyn has said Adams and Autry are longtime friends.
Bobo was a 20-year-old student at the University of Tennessee at Martin when she disappeared outside her Darden home on April 13, 2011. Her brother said he saw her being led away from the home between 7:30 and 8 a.m. local time.
The disturbing case grabbed national headlines as the trail into the young woman's disappearance went cold and the small community tried to cope with the apparent randomness of the crime.
TBI and police continue to search for more suspects in the case. "You can run, but you can't hide. We'll figure out who you are and you'll be brought to justice," Decatur County Sheriff Keith Byrd said at the news conference late Monday.
