Navy Strike Fighter Crashes in Nevada

A Navy strike fighter crashed Saturday on a training range in Nevada, the Navy said. There was no immediate word on the pilot.

The jet, an F/A-18C Hornet assigned to the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center, went down about 3 p.m. (6 p.m. ET) about 70 miles east of at Naval Air Station Fallon, where the air warfare center has its headquarters.

Lt. Reagan Lauritzen, a spokesman for the Pacific Fleet, told NBC News that Navy personnel were still en route to the remote scene in a sparsely populated area more than 120 miles east of Reno.

The Navy said the aircraft was conducting a training flight but that no further information was available.
