Air Force Academy Investigates Possible Cheating

More cheating allegations have hit the U.S. Air Force, this time at the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Academy officials are investigating whether 40 freshman cadets cheated in a chemistry class, copying old lab reports from previous semesters or from current students.

The school says about 500 cadets are enrolled in the class.

Cheating is forbidden by the academy's honor code. Cadets who break the code can be expelled, but the Colorado Springs Gazette reports freshmen violators are generally treated more leniently under current rules. They can be placed on probation instead.

The allegations follows a cheating scandal at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana. In January, 92 officers were implicated in a cheating scandal at the base. Forty officers were suspected of cheating on a key proficiency exam; the remaining 52 were allegedly aware of the cheating, but failed to report it to superiors.
