Building explodes in downtown Minneapolis

At least a dozen people have been injured in a building explosion in Minneapolis, NBC affiliate KARE reported.


First responders are on the scene of 514 Cedar Avenue South, near Interstate 94 in in the city's Cedar-Riverside neighborhood.


Police first received reports of an explosion at the building at 8:50 a.m. local time, according to Greg Nelson, of the Minneapolis Police Communications Department.


KARE is reporting that injuries include burns and trauma suffered by people falling or jumping from windows of the three-story structure. There are no fatalities reported, and police believe that all people in the building are accounted for, Nelson said.


Police had no information on the cause of the explosion. The first floor of the building housed a business, Otanga Grocery, and the two upper floors are apartments.
