A church van driver was killed and 11 passengers were hurt when a suspected drunken driver ran a stop light and collided with the van late Sunday in Indianapolis.
The group was making their way from the Jesus House Prayer Temple to another church, according the NBC affiliate, WTHR.
Police said a tan Honda Accord ran a red light at a intersection at about 8 p.m. ET and slammed into the side of the van, flipping it onto its side. The driver of the Honda fled the scene on foot but was caught a few blocks away from the crash, a police statement said. Investigators suspect alcohol may have played a role in the crash.
The van's driver, a male whom police have not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
None of those taken to hospital had life-threatening injuries; a 7-year-old girl suffered a broken leg, according to WTHR.
