Amber Alert issued after ailing newborn, mom vanish

By Alastair Jamieson, Staff writer, NBC News

An Amber Alert was issued late Friday in Washington state for an hours-old baby girl who police say was taken by her 20-year-old mother.

Annabelle Martini is suffering from "life-threatening medical conditions" and is in need of medical attention, according to police.

The girl is believed to be with her mother, Jaime Martini, who is described as 5-foot-3, 135 pounds with long, straight blonde hair and brown eyes.

“Martini fled with the infant and has not sought medical treatment for the child,” the alert said.

NBC station KING5 reported that Martini delivered the baby at about 6.30 a.m. local time (9.30 a.m. ET) Friday at an apartment complex in Mill Creek, Wash., with the help of a midwife.

The midwife called 911 to report the baby was having difficulty breathing and was not responsive, KING5 reported.

Police were dispatching an aid car but canceled it when Jaime Martini said she was taking the baby to a hospital at the insistence of the midwife. However, she and the baby had not checked in at any hospitals in the area.

The two may be traveling in a white 2001 BMW 330CI with Washington license AJD7417 or a 1993 dark green Lexus SC400 with license plate 871WJF.
