Silent Night: ‘Saturday Night Live’s’ somber Newtown commemoration

NBC's "Saturday Night Live'' did something extremely unusual to open its weekend show.


It didn't make a single joke.


It opened with a shot of a burning candle, then showed the members of New York City Children's Chorus. They were earnestly singing the holiday hymn "Silent Night" with its final line: "Sleep in heavenly peace.''



The meaning was clear.
