The race is on: nominees for the 2013 Golden Globe Awards were announced this morning, and predictions are already being made for who will walk away with the golden prize.

"Now, it's a horse race," Yahoo! Movies contributing editor Thelma Adams told ABCNews.com. "'Argo,' 'Les Miserable,' 'Silver Linings Playbook,' and my personal favorite, 'Zero Dark Thirty' -- they are all thoroughbreds."

Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" lead the nominations with seven, including best drama, while "Argo" and Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" tied for second with five nominations a piece. "Les Mis," "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Silver Linings" each picked up four nominations.

Sally Field, who earned a supporting actress nomination for her role as Mary Todd Lincoln in the Spielberg film, told GMA this morning, "I feel so thrilled and proud to be part of this film. And I feel so incredibly glad that the Hollywood Foreign Press has recognized every one of us in the film. And Steven and Daniel and Tommy (Lee Jones) and Tony (Kushner, the screenwriter) and (composer) John Williams … I just feel so proud to be a part of it."

"Overall, it's the strongest year in recent memory," Adams added.

Still, there were a few snubs and surprises. Christopher Nolan and his final Batman installment "The Dark Knight Rises" were snubbed. Other directors who failed to make the cut, Tom Hooper for "Les Mis" and David O. Russell for "Silver Linings."

Anthony Hopkins got no love for "Hitchcock," which fizzled at the box office, making room for Richard Gere for his role in "Arbitrage." Matthew McConaughey was also snubbed for "Magic Mike." Meanwhile, the indie comedy "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" got a surprising three nods for best comedy/musical and its stars Emily Blunt and Ewan McGregor.

On the TV side, "Mad Men" was largely snubbed, receiving only one nod for star Jon Hamm. Though "Modern Family" received nods for best comedy and supporting actress Sofia Vergara, its lead actors were overlooked.
