9:59PM EST November 11. 2012 - Paula Broadwell's life appeared to be an open book.
She sent frequent updates of her accomplishments to the alumni notes of West Point, posted often on Twitter and answered question after question for flattering profiles in media as varied as her hometown newspaper in Bismarck, N.D., to Jon Stewart's The Daily Show, where she bested him in a push-ups competition.
Since allegations emerged Friday of an affair with married CIA Director David Petraeus, who resigned, she has been silent. Her Twitter feed has not been updated, and she has not returned phone calls to her Charlotte home.
Her last words Nov. 5 on her Twitter feed — @paulabroadwell — promote Petraeus and his leadership maxims published in Newsweek. "Take performance personally," she wrote. "If u r ok 2 b average, so 2 will be your team."
Broadwell's story until now reads like a profile of perfection.

On Twitter, she describes herself as an author, national security analyst, Army vet, women's rights activist, runner, skier, surfer, wife and "Mom!"
She is married to Scott Broadwell, an interventional radiologist in Charlotte, "who has saved more lives than she has," said her website, www.paulabroadwell.com, which has been taken down. They have two young sons.
In her free time, the website said, Broadwell has been an Ironman triathlete, and a model and demonstrator for KRISS, a manufacturer of .45-caliber machine guns.
"When Paula is not on the frontlines, online, or writing lines, (she and her husband) love to run, ski and surf together," the website said.
"Yes, I wear a number of hats," Broadwell told Inspired Woman magazine in a February interview. "But my most important title is mom and wife."
"Passion. Intensity. Vision," reads the headline on her profile for her induction into the Century High School Hall of Fame in Bismarck, N.D., where Paula Kranz excelled in the classroom, on the basketball court, in the orchestra and among her peers.
Broadwell, 40, graduated from Century in 1991. She had been homecoming queen, student council president, state student council president, an all-state basketball player, the orchestra concertmistress and the class valedictorian, the profile says.
At the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Broadwell graduated with academic, fitness and leadership honors, her biography on the Penguin Speakers Bureau website notes.
"Paula's passion for leadership and security policy stems from her background in the U.S. military and her academic pursuits," the biography says.
She met Petraeus in the spring of 2006 as a graduate student at Harvard University, where she was earning a master's degree in public administration. Broadwell was invited to meet with the general at a dinner after he made a speech. He gave her his card, she wrote in the preface of the book.
Her doctoral dissertation on transformational leadership, begun in 2008, became a biography of Petraeus after he invited her in 2010 to embed with his command in Afghanistan, the biography says.
Blurbs for the biography, All In: The Education of General David Petraeus, boast of Broadwell's "unprecedented access" to Petraeus as she wrote the portrait of strategic leadership "at his elbow in a war zone."
